NUCCA: Chiropractic That Doesn’t Need to Crack Your Neck

Looking for a Chiropractor Who Won’t Crack You?

Most chiropractors aim to address local joint dysfunction at various segments of the spine using short, quick thrusts. NUCCA chiropractors concentrate their efforts to the junction between the head and neck using slow and light adjustments.

While some people do enjoy the cracking and popping sounds that come with a traditional chiropractic adjustment, it is not for everyone. The NUCCA adjustment is extremely gentle (no cracking or popping), and the reason it works so well is due to how precise and calculated the procedure is. Learn more about NUCCA here.

Using the latest digital x-ray technology, we can visualize the exact position and alignment of your head and neck. With this information, we can utilize the mechanics of the body to balance both the head and neck without needing much force.

What Makes a NUCCA Chiropractor Different from Traditional Chiropractors?

Aside from our gentle style of adjusting, what else makes us different?

1. A focus on the head and neck to benefit the rest of the body.

NUCCA chiropractors specialize in addressing misalignments of the top bone of the neck, called the atlas (C1). Misalignments of the upper neck have been shown to cause postural imbalance and shifts that go all the way down the rest of the spine. Due to the importance of the junction between the head and the neck, issues in this region should be resolved before looking elsewhere.

2. Brain-based model of care.

The top bones of the neck are closely related to the brain and nervous system, impacting these essential structures in a way that the rest of the spine does not. Misalignments of the upper neck have been proven to obstruct blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow from the brain, similar to how a clogged toilet cannot drain. These misalignments also place stress on a particular region of the brain called the brainstem, which coordinates blood pressure, postural control, and other vital functions. Conditions such as loss of balance, brain fog, and migraines can be helped by addressing the C1 vertebra.

3. We value stabilization of the correction. Holding is healing.

We do not adjust patients every visit. This may seem strange, but we understand that the body is naturally able to heal when it is in proper alignment. As your body begins to adapt to its new position, your muscles and ligaments will learn to support and stabilize the correction. If you are holding your correction, we will leave it as is, similar to how a dentist will not perform a dental filling on a healthy tooth. Knowing when NOT to adjust is just as important, if not more important, than knowing when an adjustment is needed.

4. Specifically tailored adjustments for each individual.

The specific x-rays we take of the head and neck allow us to calculate an adjustment angle that is specific to each individual’s anatomy. Misalignments of the upper neck can vary in magnitude and complexity, and we take this into account as we formulate the best approach for you.
